So we are going to be starting our Science Fair Projects really soon.  For the first few days we will be going over the scientific process and the kids will be doing an experiment as a whole class. We will be talking about project ideas as well as how to write a hypothesis.  You can get some really excellent ideas from the Science Buddies Website. It give you ideas as well as how to do the experiments. It is a great place to start especially if you don’t know where to start. The Science Buddies website is: .  I will also link this website under the science category on the sidebar of my blog.  This is going to be great!

We Are On Our Way

It has been an exciting few weeks. The students have been really good to work with. We have been learning about variables in math.  We just took our first math test for chapter 1 and our class average was 73%.  I think this is really good. We have some amazing students. Parents, you should ask your student about his/her scores.  I told them that they can fix their mistakes by redoing the problem on a separate sheet of paper and turning that in. They can get help from parents when they are correcting mistakes. For everyone they get correct, they get half credit.  That means if they only got a 50% on their test (which is an “F”) then they could get 75% after correcting (which is a “C”) so it is in their best interests to fix the mistakes, but I am not going to force them to do anything. The students need to be responsible.

Also in Science we have been looking into microorganisms. We have discovered that microorganisms are everywhere and most of them are helpful. We got to look at pond water from Beuse Pond under the microscope. We saw some pretty amazing things. I think the students really enjoyed it. I hope they learned something as well. In the next week or so we will be beginning work on our science fair projects, so be aware it will be coming home soon.

I want to be able to allow the student to be our classroom bloggers. We are just finishing up some pre-blogging material in class. When that is finished look for posts from the students:)

I am so glad to be back in school.  We had a great summer, but I am ready to be back on a regular schedule. And I get to be with all of my friends. We are going to have a great year!

I hope to see you all at Back-to-School night on Monday 19th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  We will be running 15 minute sessions where we will share our procedures and expectations in 6th grade.  We can answer any questions you may have at that time. I am really excited to meet all of you, so I hope you are able to come.
