Crispin by Avi

Book Jacket

Crispin, an orphan, is falsely accused of theft and murder but meets a man who can help him. Crispin is about a transformation of a boy’s feelings from shy and worthless to strong and courageous with the help of his friend. I liked the book and thought it was enjoyable to read. It had interesting main characters and I couldn’t put it down. The ending was predictable, but the book is still enjoyable.

Sabriel by Garth Nix

Sabriel and her father are necromancers and Sabriel’s father is locked in the land of the dead. She becomes the Abhorsen, inherited from her father’s ‘death’, and has to save him and also keep the land safe from the dead. This book is a well written fantasy that is the first in the Old Kingdom Series. I have read it at least three times and thoroughly enjoyed it all three times.

Dangerously Alice by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor

Book Jacket

Alice is a good girl who decides she needs to change her image. This books is one of many in a series about Alice, who is very fun and endearing. All the books feature Alice and her two best friends. Her mother is dead, but she has a caring dad and an older brother and an aunt who gives her advice. I’ve read every book in the series and loved them all. It’s fun to read about Alice growing up and about her experiences with boys, family, friends and life in general.

Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce

Alanna is a young girl who wants to be a knight and her twin brother wants to be a magician, so they switch places. Disguised as a boy, Alanna works harder than anyone to prove that she can become a knight too. This is the first in an exciting, adventurous series about a girl who knows what she wants and works hard to get it. I’ve read most of Tamora Pierce’s other series, but this is my favorite.
