Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson

Book Jacket

Peter Pan is a classic tale but this is a new twist. Peter comes in contact with a group that is trying to keep a secret safe. they have to fight off pirates and thieves that would steal the secret and destroy the world. The characters are a little different from the classic tale but Peter is still the hero orphan boy and it is filled with magic and wonder like the original. This is a series and the story continues in the other books.

The characters are a little different indeed! They changed their very personalities and traits. And I don’t think the magic and wonder is there at all. In Barrie’s it’s simply JUST THERE but they explain it away. They also have a TON of mistaks compared to Barrie original stories. Did they even read them before they wrote it? Pan’s whole reason for not growing up is changed… that’s all just disrespectful, how can they contradict their source material like that?

There are a couple of cool Pan out there.
One is a faithful continuation based on Barrie’s own notes for more:
The other is a grand “What if?” game that, while changing the events & outcome of the story, never loses sight of his themes, points and characters:
