Cell Organelle Study Cards (7th)

Posted on Friday, December 2, 2016 in 7th Grade Science

Here is the assignment that we did on Friday.  If you were not here because of the incentive activity then you are exempt from this, but if you were just absent then you need to make it up.  Even if you are exempt from the assignment, I think it would be wise to do it so you are prepared for the quiz and test.

It is very likely that you will not be able to open these because they are pictures.  I have copies with me or you can copy and paste them into a word document to make them bigger.  You can also just make your own if you want.

Cut out the first two pages and make them into little envelopes.  Cut out the Organelle Flash Cards Inserts and write the function of each on the back side.  Put them in the correct envelope.

There are some words that we haven’t covered yet.  Their information is below:

Centrosome – help with cell division

Centrioles – parts of a centrosome

Microtubules – help give the cell structure

Also, we didn’t talk about what is only in an animal cell.  The only ones that go there are the lysosomes and the centrosome and centrioles.

Any questions, please ask

Rock Cycle Game Make up

Posted on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in 8th Grade Science

If you were not here on November 29th then you missed the Rock Cycle Game assignment.  It isn’t something you can really make up outside of class, so instead I have another assignment for you to do.

I want you to write a story from the perspective of a rock going through the rock cycle.  Be creative and make it fun, but also use scientific words like the ones in the list below.  This story should be more than half a page single spaced and should cover the entire rock cycle.

Types of words to include:

  • Igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic
  • magma
  • sediments
  • compaction and cementation
  • high heat and pressure
  • cooling and hardening
  • weathering and erosion
  • anything else covered in class you would like to throw in

Microscopes Packet

Posted on Saturday, November 26, 2016 in 7th Grade Science

The microscopes packet consists of 3 assignments that we did on the 17th, 18th, and 21st of November.  Since we will not have any more class time to work on them, I am posting an alternative assignment here for these.

  1. Assignment #1: Find a picture (online is pretty easy) of the letter “e” from a newspaper under a microscope.  Describe or draw a picture of it and also describe how it may have looked different than you would expect.  Also find a picture of a colored newspaper picture under a microscope.  Describe or draw what it looked like and why do you think it looked like that.
  2. Assignment #2: Look up pictures of at least 3 common things (maybe even just look around and find something) and what they look like under a microscope.  Describe what you see and what is something that you see that you can’t see without a microscope.  Does that make you understand that thing better?  Why or why not?
  3. Assignment #3: Look up pictures of the following things under microscopes and describe or draw what they look like.  Blood, frog skin cells, onion root tip, paramecium, amoeba, and volvox.  Feel free to look up other things as well.  Describe or draw each one and describe what it is you think you are seeing.

Use these assignments to make up any that you are missing or that your were absent for.  Any Questions, feel free to ask.
