Re-Boot!

I have had a number of teachers inquire about the Microsoft License being purchased through the online store. Questions like: “How many systems can I install the Office suite on?”   “What rights does the the license give me for laptops?” I asked the Microsoft representative for clarification and I will paste his response below. Hopefully, it will answer the questions that have been raised. Here is his response:

Mr. Brooks:
Under the Student License program (open to all faculty, staff and students) the end user gets rights to install twice… the idea being one for use and one for back up purposes… so it is up to the end user to manage their install rights IF the end user goes beyond 2 installs they would have to contact Microsoft and explain why they need additional licenses and it would be up to Microsoft to grant additional rights… I would caution users that this something that is not often granted, so manage installs wisely up front.

As far as kids systems see above….  2 installs……. Not intended to be a personal site license…

When ordering from the website the user gets a media and license

The Student License program allows each employee, staff or student, to purchase 1 license/media combination per eligible person, per title, per year…

To decipher: If a family has 3 kids in Weber Schools that means each kid can purchase 1 license/media combination per title…

If that same 3 kid family also had a parent employed by the district then the parent(s) would also be eligible to purchase

So far we have had over 100 users take advantage of the opportunity.   It’s a great deal and a super benefit for our staff and students.

Tech Services often fields questions on how an employee may purchase Microsoft Office for home use and get the education discount.  Previously, it has been somewhat difficult do all the verification and purchasing steps necessary.  We are announcing the opening of Weber District online store to facilitate these purchases. Conditions:

• Any employee and student of Weber District may purchase ONE copy of any ONE version of the software listed ONCE a year.
• You can either download the software and license directly from the store , or you can have the store  send you the DVD and license in the mail.  (for a fee)
• You must have a Weber School District email address in order to qualify for the purchase.   The email address must end with the domain   @weber.k12.ut.us or  @wsdstudent.net
• You must register with the store in order to complete the purchase.
