I know I haven’t posted at all yet this school year and am sorry. Word is out now that I will be moving, with my husband and pets, to Germany. My last day at Lakeview will be October 16th. I am terribly sad to be leaving my family here at Lakeview. What an amazing adventure it has been. I am so proud to be a part of a school that is growing, challenging and improving all of the time. I may never get a chance to work as part of a team that cares so much about the success of our students as I have here. I have high hopes for the continued success of our students and will do my best to keep in touch with friends here and to follow the excitement of the ever improving community that I am so sad to leave. In the meantime I have been preparing to hand off my responsibilities to the next Counselor, whoever that may be. I have planned all of the lessons for the year and hope to leave things well organized. I am fully confident that my passion for the character education of our students will be carried on by my successor, and hopefully improved upon. There is nothing more important than shaping the hearts and minds of our young people to become respectful, responsible citizens in our community. I am happy to know that our students are in a great school and will leave here as better learners and citizens, improved upon by the love of the educators in our building, and by their own hard work. I know that I am leaving here a much better person, counselor and friend because of the people I have learned from, the families I have known, and the challenges we have overcome together.
As this year comes to a close we have much to celebrate…the success of our students academically but also with their character. I am so proud to be the counselor at Lakeview and to have the chance to get to know each one of our wonderful students. This year has been a time of growth and learning for me as much as any of my 21 years of formal education. I am sad to say goodbye to the 6th grade class, some of my colleagues who are making career changes, and the experience of this year. But with the end of this year will come the beginning of a brand new year in which I will use what I have learned to improve my teaching and counseling skills for next year.
There have been many highlights for me during the 2008-2009 school year and I will cherish them all. Some of you may have heard that we celebrated reading over 1 million minutes this year by sending Mrs. Alexander, Miss Ross and myself to the roof yesterday to shower the students with water and treats. The link below will show you what joy we take in encouraging the development of our student’s minds through reading and having fun! We certainly had a blast while making an end of year “splash”!
Weber Human Services has provided Lakeview Elementary with a take-home parenting course that you can do in the comfort of your own home on your own time.
Parenting Wisely has proven effective in: Improving family communication, Increasing parental supervision and monitoring and Improving discipline.
This is an interactive program that includes a free workbook (to keep) and CD-ROM (to be returned upon completion). The CD-ROM works in any computer (but is not necessary to the program if you do not have computer access).
Let me know if you would like to try this program. There is a pre-test and post-test involved for our school’s free use of the program so we can schedule a time for you to take the pre-test and leave with the program!

Can you believe we are in April already????
Well, we are! So you may be wondering what the new character trait of the month is…
Well, we don’t have one!
We will be focusing on review of our six traits for the rest of this year. RESPECT RESPONSIBILITY CITIZENSHIP TRUSTWORTHINESS CARING FAIRNESS
As part of our review, the Leopard Leaders are sponsoring a SHOW YOUR CHARACTER CONTEST which will involve artwork and essay contests in each grade based on our character traits. (Rules and specifics are available through each classroom teacher.)
Entries are due April 24th and some teachers will be facilitating this process through classroom assignments, others will be assigning the work as take-home or extra curricular. Speak to your children and their teachers about the specifics of each class.
We will have an assembly in May to award the winners.
I hope you are as excited as I am to see how our students show what they have learned this year in our SHOW YOUR CHARACTER CONTEST!
Save most of your words for happy times…
