100th Day of School

We will be celebrating the 100th day of Kindergarten on Friday, Feb. 10.

Please have your child dress up as if they were 100 years old.  This can be simple!!! There is info about it in their homework packet this week.  We look forward to a FUN day celebrating 100 through writing, snacks, physical activities, stories and more.

Apps for iPads & Tablets

At Parent Teacher Conferences, I had several parents ask for ideas about good apps for their children.  I sent home a list of apps that we have on our iPads here at school and a suggested list I found online.  I have not tried all of them, but have used most in the past years.  We have not used any yet this year, so I don’t know if the info is still current.  Check them out.  Many would be great practice for your students.

Field Trip to Ogden Nature Center

We will be going on a field trip to the Ogden Nature Center on Friday, November 4.  We will be learning about Native Americans and how they lived off the land.  We will have the opportunity to sample “journey cakes”, listen to stories in a teepee and discover uses of plants.

All 4 Kindergarten classes will be going at the same time, so Afternoon students will need to come to school in the morning.  The bus will be pulling out of the parking lot by 8:45 am so it is important that your child is here to school by 8:30 am.  We are on a tight schedule and will not be able to wait for late students.  Hopefully this will not be an inconvenience for you.  We will return by 11:45 am.  Due to the number of students this year, in order for the Nature Center to accommodate us, we will be about 20 minutes longer than usual.  So, please plan accordingly.  If your child rides the bus, they will be home about 20-30 minutes later than normal.  Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

A permission slip was sent home in your child’s homework folder on Monday.  Please return this as soon as possible.

Halloween 2016

Here are the notes that went home about Halloween.

AM Class:

We will be having our school wide Halloween Parade again this year.  It is scheduled for 9:00 am Monday, October 31.

Because we have our class party that day, we will participate in a shortened version of the parade.  Meaning that we will parade through all classrooms and the gym, but the other classes will not parade through our room.  After we parade, we will come back to our room for our Halloween Party.  AM Kindergarten students will be able to keep their costumes on for the whole party, so no changing clothes will be involved.

Please refer to the guidelines and instructions sent from the PTA.  We look forward to a fun day and thank you for your support.  We are grateful for all those who are helping with our class party!!

PM Class:

We will be having our school wide Halloween Parade again this year.  It is scheduled for 9:00 am Monday, October 31.

Any Afternoon Kindergarten students who would like to participate in the parade are welcome to have a parent bring them for the parade, then take them home until our regular school time.  Kindergarten students will participate in a shortened version of the parade so that we may have our scheduled Halloween Party put on by Room Moms.  PM students will come to school at their normal time with NO COSTUMES!!! We will have our class parties as previously scheduled and planned by our amazing Room Moms!

Please refer to the guidelines and instructions sent home previously.  We look forward to a fun day and thank you for your support.  We are grateful for all those who are helping with our class party!!

Colors and Fun With Names

We have been having a lot of fun doing activities with colors the last couple of weeks.  We are looking forward to mixing colors in our Monster Mess books, and doing fun Skittles Rainbow math activities on Friday.  Our class has been singing songs and making class books using our names.  We have been switching the first sounds in our names to go along with songs like Willoughby Wallaby Woo, and the Wheels on the Bus.  We read Silly Sally and made our own version of the book.

Our class behaviors are improving each day.  It is so neat to see how quickly the kiddos catch on.  I look forward to starting Daily 5 reading activities including Read To Self and Word Work soon.  We will be practicing the procedures for these activities over the next 2-3 weeks.  We hope to improve our stamina each day as we learn to be independent readers.  We will also be starting Writer’s Workshop.  I can’t wait to see what wonderful things your children write about!

If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to ask.  Don’t forget to read and record your days read on the website.  We’ll be having drawings soon!!

Welcome to Kindergarten!

This is going to be an amazing year!  I am so excited to have your children in our class.  This will be a great place to keep you updated on what is going on in our class.  I will post some of the children’s work on here, calendars, and things to work on at home,  as well as having links for you and your child to use while at home.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Mrs. Cragun
