Habit #6: Synergize

We have been SAGE testing and starting to close out the room so I have not had  a chance to update. This week, we have focused on Synergizing. This is basically Teamwork.

Here is what our poster says about Synergize:

  • I know that the whole is better than the sum of its parts
  • I can work with people who are different from me
  • I value and celebrate diversity
  • I cooperate with others so that together we can create

This week has had the most poster contest entries than ever before. The kids are really excited about this habit because I think they most easily relate to teamwork. We do a lot of partner work in my room and pair and share. I hope I have allowed them to be open and explore themselves this year and will have even more confidence moving forward in their educational careers.

I have had the great pleasure of teaching a great group of 3rd graders this year. I was a change of pace from 6th grade, but not a bad change! I have LOVED all of the cards and hugs I receive daily and I hope and pray that I have positively impacted your child in some way while they have been under my care. They will always be part of my heart now and I hope they will visit me!

POSTER CONTEST FOR HABIT #5: SEEK FIRST TO UNDERSTAND, THEN TO BE UNDERSTOOD

We started SAGE Math test this morning and not even one person finished! This means they are working hard and taking their time! I am sure all of their hard work is paying off. I am buying them pizza and have brought in my popcorn popper for a post-SAGE celebration! We will have our class party on May 13. If you would like to come and join the fun or send food or goodie bags, please feel free! These 18 kids have worked SO hard this year and it shows!

Habit #4: Think Win-Win

Thinking Win-Win means:

  • I can get what I want without hurting others
  • I can compromise
  • I consider the thoughts and feelings of others
  • I can resolve conflict
  • I have a positive relationship with others
  • I share with others

The class is coming up with some ways you can think win-win:

  • “Not pushing through a crowd so everyone gets where they are going and no one is trample”
  • “When someone wants to play with my group of friends, let them, instead of leaving them out”
