Most students have a professional in mind before they pursue an Internship. It is usaully someone they have worked with in the past, related to their interest area and academic course of study. Your High School Facillitator or Work-Based Learning Coordinator (me) would be more than happy to help you in your pursuit of a workplace venue.
A Career Pathway is a course of study related to specific careers. Your counselor is privy to this information and you should be exploring this during your SEOP session with them. You also can also refer to the State Career Pathway link located at the top of my blog for a more detailed explanation of Pathways and how to make them work for you!
The official word is that Internships are a senior opportunity. Internships represent the capstone of our career pathways. With that in mind, we feel it is necessary that students have attained core knowledge before entering into the workplace. It’s kind of like walking before you can run…but, I will say I’ve had one or two high acheiving juniors do an Internship in the past…but it’s rare.
