Flag Football Rules

Mar-14-2017 By lolamb

Flag Football Rules

At the beginning of each game and when a touch down is scored…teams will get the ball half way in-between the first and second cone.  There are no kick offs.

3 players must be on the line within arms length before the ball can be hiked by the center.

Line of scrimmage is an imaginary line from sideline to sideline where the offense and defense line up.

When the ball is hiked to the quarter-back the quarter-back has 5 seconds before the defense can rush them and pull their flag.  If the quarter-back runs at any time the defense no longer has to count to 5…they can pull the flag.  The quarter back can throw, run or hand-off at anytime.

The defense can not rush the ball until they have counted out loud for 5 seconds.  (slowly…eg. “1 alligator, 2 alligator)

Scoring – If a girl is involved in the play = 8 points  (Throwing, running or catching a touch down)

No girl is involved in the play = 6 points

A lateral pass is a pass that is thrown back…not down field.  Teams have unlimited number of lateral passes. Lateral passes can be made anytime regardless of where the line of scrimmage is.

A forward pass is a pass that is made towards the end zone.  The quarterback can not run past the line of scrimmage and then throw the ball, they must stay behind the line of scrimmage to make a forward pass.

There are no fumbles.  If someone drops the ball, their team gets it where it is dropped.  It does not change possession.

Interceptions can be made when a boy throws it.  If a girl is the quarterback the defense can make an interception, but the offense keeps possession but they lose a down.

There is no blocking in flag football.  Players can set a screen, but no pushing is allowed.

No diving for the end-zone or for a first down.

No jumping to avoid having flag pulled.

No spinning down field.  (Change of direction is okay)

No stiff-arm.

Defense needs to drop the flag where it is pulled so that we know where to place the ball and where the scrimmage line is.

Teams are allowed a 20 second huddle to make a play.

There is one first down marker.  That marker is the center cone on the field.

DOWNS : Teams have 4 downs ( tries) to get to the first down marker…this will give them another set of downs (4 more tries).  Once teams go past the first down marker they have to make a touch down or the ball is turned over to the other team.

If the flag falls off for any reason and it was not pulled by the defense,  the player can continue to run…the defense has to one-hand touch the offensive player

Girl will be the quarter back every other play. If the girl quarter back throws an interception the offensive team does not lose possession of the ball just a loss of down.
