The end of the year is upon us. We will only have one more day in the computer lab to work on your HR projects. Make sure you save your file as a movie and upload it on Moodle. If you have questions, let me know. I look forward to watching these movies you have put so much work into!
You should also be planning your pennant. Remember, it must have your poet’s name and 6 symbols representing him/her and/or his/her poetry. Pennants are due Monday.
The first day of competition, the immunity challenge, is Wednesday. Get your Mood Music presentation ready.
We will be starting the annual “Survivor of the Poets” competition very soon. Use the computer lab today to research some potential mentor poets. Each student should select a poet to do some quick research on. Make sure you get your poet approved by Mr. W. Then create a discussion in our forum on Moodle about your poet mentor. Include the at least the following information:
1. a picture of your poet
2. your poet’s name
3. when your poet wrote
4. what place your poet is from
5. what syle of poetry did your poet write in
6. an example of your poet’s poetry
7. at least 3 sources for additional information
Use my example about e e cummings to help you create your own. The following sites will help you on your research:
Some 9th graders have been asking for me to post the Wednesday Writing early. I am posting it now, but please make sure you are reading your lit circle book, doing your task for lit circles (next meeting is Thrusday), and working on your HR project.
This WW is not due until April 4.
Watch this video about “Blood Diamonds.” You may also do some internet research on the subject. Then write a one page response. Try to link the video with things we have been learning about in class like Human Rights and/or The Pearl.
8th graders will be finishing up the play, The Diary of Anne Frank. You may listen to the rest of the play at http://www.archive.org/details/GoodrichHackettTheDiaryOfAnneFrank. If you don’t finish, you should take your book home. Act Two begins on page 411 and ends on page 434.
When you have finished, complete the Comparison of Events Letter on Moodle. Take the perspective of Frances Goodrich or Albert Hackett (the playwrights). Use Matt Sciple’s list of differences between the play and history.Comparison of Events Address, in a letter, 6 out of the 7 differences found on the worksheet. Explain why you, as a playwright, chose to make these changes from history. Your letter should be in first person. This will be your final grade for the Holocaust Unit.
9th graders should be ready to move on to Step 5 – Synthesize (that rhymes). This is the stage where you will begin putting together all that you have researched. I suggest following this protocol to help you put your project together.
3. Create a script and submit it on Moodle for approval. You can also use the HR Narration Script graphic organizer.
4. Record your narration.
5. Add music and transitions.
If you have about a half an hour, check out this video about human rights violations in Africa. Warning: some images are disturbing. This video gives information on several of the Human Rights like, 3, 4, 5, 6, 13, 14, 15, 24, and 25.
9th graders will hold their first Lit Circle meeting to discuss the first quarter of the book they have selected on Friday, March 23 (postponed from Thursday, March 22 becuase of the field trip.) Make sure you have your jobs done ahead of time, or you won’t receive any credit.
If you haven’t procured a copy from the library or other source yet, you are in big trouble!
