Jr. High Disclosure Statement

Jr. High Orchestra Disclosure Statement

Dear Parents and Students:

I am excited to be teaching orchestra again. I hope to be able to encourage the students and help them to be successful. Learning an instrument develops patience and discipline, which will help in whatever your student decides to do in life. I hope to share my passion and love for music and hope it will become contagious. Thank you for giving me this opportunity to work with your student!

Fees

There is a $15.00 district participation fee for Music classes. If this wasn’t paid at registration, it need to be paid as soon as possible. Half of this is used to help pay for the district activities for the student and the other half goes to help us buy music.

Renting a school instrument costs $85 dollars now. We also try to rent an extra instrument for cello and bass because they are so hard to get back and forth. The instrument they use at school is usually shared by another student, so it is just $42.50 for the second one.

Grades

Tardies show a lack of respect for the teacher and other students in the class. Therefore, there will be 5 points deducted from participation points for each tardy. Please be on time and prepared!

Participation 20 points per day. The students must come prepared with their instrument and music , come on time, and work during class to get the 20 points. If a student is absent, they must make up participation point by practicing their orchestra music at home and bringing a note from their signed by a parent saying they did it. That will not count as regular practice time.

Practice 10 points per hour. Each student should practice one and one half hours per week.

Concerts 100 points. Concerts are mandatory. They are like the final test for the term. If there is a problem, please let me know by e-mail so we can try to work it out. The concerts and activities are list on my blog!

Listening to classical music 30 points. The student should be listening to two hours of classical music a term. This is so they can hear what their instrument should sound like and get involved in music they don’t usually listen to. 89.1 FM is almost always classical, or they can listen on the internet.

Attending extra concerts with string instruments involved will add 5 points for each concert.
