High Frequency/Sight Words

Sight words are irregularly spelled words which need to be read on sight (ex. the, is, of, to, was, etc.). Because of their irregular spelling, sight words cannot be sounded out.

High frequency words are words which are most commonly used in english text. Some high frequency words are considered sight word while others are words that can actually be sounded out. Either way, good readers learn to read both types of words automatically.

There are several lists of high frequency words available which have been highly researched. These lists include Dolch, Fry and Zeno. These lists are very similar in word choice. The main difference between them is the order in which they list the words. Because they are so similar, I have provided you with all three. This way you can decide which one you want to use.
